One of the problems that plague’s Chicago, and all major cities, is the increasing population and excessive strain on roadways. There have been attempts to alleviate this through various forms of public transportation, but none have been successful enough to reduce the traffic a significant amount. However, with the rise in awareness of global climate change and more and more people striving to help reduce the emissions that they are responsible for, there has been a surge in finding ways to accomplish this.
As with most cities, residents in Chicago are generally no more than a few blocks away from a store or their work when they are living in the area. This allows them to reduce their emissions by simply walking more and using less fossil fuel in their daily routine. Unfortunately, while walking improves the health of the environment and the person, there are some situations where walking simply isn’t an acceptable option for transportation.
In many cases people will catch rides with friends, family or even coworkers in these situations. While not exactly a car share, this allows the person looking for a ride to be able to get that ride and not have the additional expense of renting a car or using a car share program. Additionally, this can prove to be a great way for people who either don’t have a license to find transportation to get where they need to go. Generally, these rides will be unorganized and found on your own, but there may be some co-ops that can help find you a ride for the cost of fuel and/or other expenses.
